Looije Project in Kenya

By 25 June, 2015 No Comments

Last May, and for the 4th consecutive year, Looije visited Kenya to continue with the collaboration project with farmers in Satebu. This time, it was Michiel Bontenbal, Anja Bottinga and Juan Jose Lopez who travelled there. The project started in 2011 and it has as an objective to train farmers from Kenya in the growing and sales of tomatoes. Around 600 farmers are taking part in this project and they are learning the methodology of tomato growing. Besides, they are increasing their production and are joining together to sell the product. During these 4 years, 3 people from Looije went there twice a year to check first-hand the evolution of these farmers, having in mind that the methods of production are very basic (they dont have drip irrigation, greenhouses…).
