LOOIJE in Kenia

By 30 October, 2013 No Comments

Looije is doing a long-term project in Kenya with local small-scale growers, who are producing tomatoes for the local market. The reason to do this project is simply this: we have a lot to thank this world for and therefore wish to give something back to the world in return.

The way how we trying to help these growers is by capacity building, giving them knowledge about farming, about tomato growing and selling in their situation. The last 5 years we have been visiting them once or twice a year. The results are very encouraging, technical results of the crop are going up very fast and for this reason life-standard of the growers is going up significantly.

There is no real poverty anymore amongst the members of the group, in the sense of being hungry and not having money for clothes or sending children to school, anymore.

Our next major goal is to get better sales and distribution structures. In view of the current developments with the group, I am more than confident that this will improve.
